A trip to the ER...
So I had to make a trip into the ER today. I initially contacted my primary care doctor and told her how I was feeling. She told me that I needed to contact my OB. When I called my OB she told me that I needed to go to the ER. SO I got the kids packed up and dropped off at the babysitter and then drove to the ER.
When I got there they immediately took me right in, even though there was a waiting room full of people. I was so thankful. When they initially put me on the monitor my blood pressure was elevated, and my heart rate was very high. They did all the labs to make sure I wasn't developing pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome again. Praise God, as of right now I am not. My heart however is not liking being pregnant. It is working very hard, and too fast. They gave me some meds to decrease the heart rate, and I will be seeing a cardiologist on Tuesday. Uggh I am trying to not be discouraged but it is so hard. It has always been around 27 or 28 weeks that things start going wrong. As I will be 28 weeks tomorrow I am feeling so overwhelmed. I know that God is in control and that the outcome will be okay regardless, but I just wish it didn't have to be high risk and scary. :-( Please be praying that my heart can sustain this pregnancy for at least another 8weeks, and that no other issues develop. And please continue to pray that this little sweetie grows healthy and strong :-)

IVIG, Preschool conferences, and a trip to the ER
I am praising God that Preston's IVIG went so fantastically well today! They were able to get the IV in on the first try. He fell asleep shortly after and then slept throughout most of it. He was fairly miserable on the way in to Children's today, but thankfully he seems to be feeling much better.
I went to Sophia's preschool conference today. Her teacher was very happy with all the progress that she has made. She feels as though she will do very well in kindergarden and has no concerns with her except for a warning about how much of a perfectionist Sophia is. And that that perfectionism prevents her at times from trying new things in fear of not doing it well. She stated that she has gotten better at being willing to try new things but that she still struggles with not wanting to, because she wants to be really good at everything she does. I shared how I feel as though she doesn't want to disappoint people if she doesn't do something to her liking. All in all a great conference. I can't believe my baby girl will be starting kindergarden in a few months.
My poor friend Sara had an anaphylactic reaction to pudding today and ended up in the hospital. I went and sat with her for a little while, just to keep her company. Poor girl! Please be praying for her, her doctors can't seem to get a handle on her allergic reactions and they keep getting worse.

Preston's IVIG and a trip to the ER
So last thursday the 6th my mom and I drove into Children's for Preston's first infusion. We had a male nurse who seemed wonderful and had been working through the Children's Hospital infusion centers for more than 26 years. He introduced himself and played with P while he was looking for good IV access, which of course wasn't the greatest. He found one in his left AC and we started the infusion. Preston was playing and happy. He ended up falling asleep after about half an hour or so. When he woke up the nurse checked his arm and realized that the infusion wasn't going into a vein it was just going into his tissue like a subcutaneous injection! The poor baby's arm was so swollen and hard. You could tell it really made the nurse anxious as he quickly left and went and got a doctor to come in and look at it. Thankfully the doctor thought it looked like it would be fine, but just said that for the next twenty-four hours that I needed to keep making sure there was a pulse in his hand, and that it was warm. Praising God that that resolved very easily. The second IV they put in went into his right foot. This area worked well for him although he was mad because it certainly limited his movement. He had a blast playing with my mom during the first half of the infusion, before they realized the IV wasn't in the right place...
We got home around supper time on thursday night. He was in great spirits and seemed thrilled to be home. He ate well and did well throughout the evening. He seemed fairly restless through the night but no fever or vomiting or anything. Friday morning he was irritable and wouldn't eat but was ok until the accident....
He and Sophia were playing in the playroom. He has this little tiny stuffed animal riding pony that he likes to sit on. He fell off it to the side and smashed his face on the train table. He put his top two front teeth through his bottom lip, and one actually came out the front of his lip. It was terrible. There was so much bleeding, I was so impressed with how well Sophia handled the whole incident. I was asking her for help and she was wonderful. It is amazing how the nurse in me just took over and dealt with the situation and didn't panic. I called the doctors office to see if she would see us in her office or if we needed to go to the ER. She said she wasn't really comfortable with it if he had damaged his teeth, and therefore recommended going to the ER. We waited in the waiting room for about 20 minutes or so before they brought us back. The doctors were really nice, but were kind of indecisive with what they should do, whether they should glue or stitch. After what seemed like FOREVER they decided to not do anything because it had stopped bleeding. They prescribed antibiotics because of the PID and sent us on our way. Shortly after we got home his mouth started bleeding again, but thankfully popsicles stopped it. Poor little guy had such a rough week! WE have to follow up with the doctor on monday to make sure all is healing well. It looks to be so far...

An ER trip for me:-(
So after the craziness of VBS, Soph's pneumonia and bringing all three kids to IVIG last friday, I had to work. I worked friday night and had a pretty good night. I went home saturday and slept a tiny bit in the morning. I went into work saturday night and it was a super stressful night. I had a really sick patient and was making all kinds of phone calls to make sure the pt was well cared for. I also had a surgical patient who needed some extra TLC. All that being said I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off for the first few hours of my shift. I got the surgical all taken care of and had to move a bed. And for some reason it hurt my back, I felt like this little pop, and instantly knew that I was going to be a mess:-( I immediately took some motrin that I had in my work bag and kept working. Unfortunately the pt got sicker and had to be transferred to a higher level of care. By the time the pt left I was in a TON of pain, and ended up being sent by my supervisor down to the ER.
Now the ER staff was AMAZING to me! I can't even begin to say how wonderful they were. But I was just miserable. I couldn't sit stand or lay without being in agony. They did this spinal kind of injection with lidocaine and then an antiinflammatory. It helped a little to the point where I ended up laying down. They then gave me some IV meds to help the severe muscle spasms. And then I rested until my friend could bring me home.
Sunday Matt and Sam were camping so they weren't home, and since they were camping my mom had had Preston and Sophia. So sunday I was able to come home and crawl my butt right into bed. But boy has it been a rough week. I am out of work for a least two weeks and start PT tomorrow. I can't really reposition without tons of pain, I can't lift anything, and poor Preston can't understand why mommy can't pick him up. It has been a rough rough week. But in the midst of it all God always sends a rainbow....
My AMAZING friend Megan has organized a group of people that are helping me care for the kids, and with meals and all kinds of stuff. I am just feeling so loved and blessed right now. I am also feeling frustrated to be needing this much help but again I am just so blessed.
So far Tippany came over and took care of me for a whole day with Preston and Sophia. Then Matt's aunt Terri came on monday and tuesday, and BEYOND SPOILED us. The poor thing wasn't even feeling well herself but she took amazing care of us. On wednesday "Auntie" Paula invited us over for the day. And again she did a lot of the snuggling of Mr P and Sam and Soph played with Roberto and Julianna so that was fabulous. And she gave us a jar of HOMEMADE from FRESH TOMATOS spaghetti sauce! We actually haven't had it yet. But I can't wait. I am sure it is going to be fabulous!
We also got some special snuggle time with Meme this week and Darius..
.
On thursday I went to my friend Megans for the day. Unfortunately I took no pics!!!
And once I was there, she took care of EVERYTHING. I seriously just sat or slept ALL DAY. It was amazing to be able to rest that much. The kids had a blast playing with her kiddos. And then she fed us dinner, got my kids washed and in their pajamas and then we headed home to brush teeth and bed.
And today my friend Bethany came over with her daughter Mackayla. Sophia and Mackayla get along so well. And Bethany is such a sweetheart. We have been so blessed by Bethany's generosity. As Mackayla has outgrown her clothes they have passed them on to Sophia. It is such a tremendous blessing. Finances are so tight these days. So each time she brings us clothes I could just cry because it is such burden lifter:-) Sam was reading to Mackayla....

An ER visit
Poor Preston has been so miserable the last few days. Thursday he had a temperature of 103.8 in the night, but then in the morning woke up without a fever and seemed ok throughout the day. Then thursday night he had a fever again, but woke up friday morning without a fever again. I called the doctors office just to talk to them to see if there was any type of virus' going around and there has been. He didn't really have any real symptoms besides being fussy and having a fever. So we were going to wait it out. Our pediatrician was on all weekend so I knew that we could call her if we needed to. So yesterday Preston was very irritable all day and wasn't eating well at all. He wouldn't take any food, his bottle, or his sippy cup. He would nurse, but I was anxious since he has been eating food now that I wouldn't have enough milk to sustain him and keep him hydrated with his high fevers.
He fell asleep and sometime around 10pm woke up absolutely inconsolably screaming. He was absolutely miserable. There was nothign that we could do that was helpful. I had given him tylenol and motrin a little bit earlier, he wouldn't nurse, he didn't want to be held or put down. He was absolutely miserable, my husband touched his head and he seemed to flinch from it. So that really scared me. Since he had the meningitis when he was tiny, this really made me nervous. We went to the ER, and they took us right in. He had a really bad ear infection in one ear, the other was pink but not all the way infected. The ER doctor also believes he has a stomach bug as well. Poor munchkin. They ended up giving him a heavy duty antibiotic as a shot. Poor guy cried so hard. And now he will be on oral antibiotics for the next ten days or so. We are also contemplating going to an ENT to get tubes put in his ear possibly.
Here is a cute pic of my guy from a few days ago....
